Robert Attenborough and land on pages about his famous father. Other pages print a net worth with no source or guess his age. You deserve facts, not filler. This guide separates what is documented from what is rumor: who he is, what he does, how old he likely is, and whether he is alive.

Who Is Robert Attenborough?
Britannica reports that David Attenborough married Jane Elizabeth Ebsworth Oriel in 1950 and that they had two children, Robert and Susan. Jane died in 1997.
Robert chose science over television. His career sits in lecture halls, field sites, and journals, not on screen.
He is also the nephew of film director Richard Attenborough, who lived from 1923 to 2014.
What Does Robert Attenborough Do for a Living?
He works as an academic anthropologist. The University of Cambridge lists him as a Senior Fellow at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, with interests in human population biology, health, and evolutionary and behavioural ecology.
The Australian National University lists him as an Honorary Senior Lecturer whose recent work covers health, nutrition, and demography in Papua New Guinea.
His record includes:
- Field-based research in the Pacific region
- Peer-reviewed chapters and papers on human genetics and population history
- A named role in the 2023 genomic analysis of hair from Ludwig van Beethoven
Robert Attenborough Age: What We Actually Know
No official source I found gives his birth date. His parents married in 1950, so he was born after that year.
That places him roughly in his late sixties or seventies today. Treat that as an estimate, not a record.
Pages that print an exact age with no source are guessing. A real birth date would come from a public record or his own statement, and neither appears online.
Is Robert Attenborough Still Alive?
I found no obituary, news report, or university notice announcing his death. Several signs point to an active academic life:
- Cambridge’s staff directory still lists him as a Senior Fellow.
- His publication list includes a book chapter dated February 2025.
- His father, Sir David, turned 100 in May 2026, and the family has stayed out of the news for any sad reason.
Keep two limits in mind. Directory pages carry no date, and a missing death report is not proof of life. If you need certainty, email the Cambridge Department of Archaeology or check his newest publications.
Readers who type “robert attenborough alive” into Google often land on sites that repeat each other. Trust university pages and publication databases over those.
Robert Attenborough Wikipedia: Where to Find Reliable Details
In my searches, the Wikipedia pages that mention him mostly belong to relatives. He appears there as a family detail, not as the subject.
Some biography sites fill the gap with long profiles. They list figures like net worth and birthplace with no source behind them.
For solid facts, use these instead:
- The Cambridge Department of Archaeology staff page
- The ANU staff profile
- His author page on a research database

What Is Robert Attenborough’s Research About?
In plain words, he studies how people’s bodies, health, and family histories connect. Much of his work focuses on New Guinea.
His published titles explore what human genetics reveals about local population history, social processes, and adaptation to malaria and varied environments.
Here is what that means in everyday terms:
- Demography: how groups grew, moved, and mixed over thousands of years
- Adaptation: how bodies changed to survive diseases like malaria
- Nutrition and health: how food and environment shape wellbeing today
Robert Attenborough Net Worth: Why the Numbers Mislead
You will find large figures online. No financial filing, interview, or official profile backs them up.
A number copied from site to site is not evidence. A net worth guessed from a famous father’s career is even weaker.
A fact needs a named source. When a page gives none, skip it.
How to Check Facts About Robert Attenborough
Follow this short routine:
- Open the Cambridge Department of Archaeology directory.
- Open the ANU staff profile.
- Search his name in Google Scholar or ResearchGate for recent papers.
- Compare any claim with those pages before you repeat it.
- Ignore pages with no author, no date, and no sources.
Mix-Ups to Avoid
Many people share this name. Family-tree sites list dozens of Robert Attenboroughs across several centuries. A small social media account under a similar name has no link to him.
Do not confuse him with his relatives:
- David Attenborough is his father, the broadcaster.
- Richard Attenborough is his uncle, the film director.
- Michael Attenborough is his cousin, a theatre director.
